THEY SAID IT

"Whether we’re comparing steps done with our mates or prospecting calls made with our colleagues, monitoring our daily activities has become the norm – especially for super-agents."

Eddie Cetin explains why top agents are ‘gamifying’ their lives and workplaces. More below.

TODAY'S GOOD NEWS

WHAT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT

DEPT OF AUCTIONS
As promised for the next few Tuesdays, we will be delivering extended highlights of our National Auctioneers Round Table, a 10 page special in the May edition of Elite Agent magazine, presented in partnership with realestate.com.au. The purpose? To unpack auction markets around Australia while helping agents develop a knowledge of auctions; what’s really needed for a successful campaign, and what the best in the business are doing right now.

In Part 2, our auctioneers discuss with Steve Carroll the
"Relationship between Auctioneer and Agent" which, of course, is particularly important for success in the current market. Watch now (15 mins).

This weeks agent advice clips feature
Alec Brown from Peter Blackshaw who may make you question your choice of auction date and time; and AJ Coleman from SA who discusses presenting your vendor all the options.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN

WHAT TO SAY WHEN THE MARKETING MANAGER ASKS YOU ABOUT YOUR TARGET MARKET FOR THE NEXT 12 MONTHS
Let’s look for owner occupiers. APRA’s recent changes haven’t been making things easy for investors. The banking regulator recently told lenders to be wary of letting investors borrow at "very high debt-to-income levels" - which it defined as any mortgage more than six times their income. Although APRA didn’t categorically ban loans above this six-times-income benchmark, banks and credit unions are likely to take the hint. Therefore, you might be better off, says RateCity’s Nick Bendel targeting owner-occupiers, who aren’t being subjected to such strict borrowing rules.

TODAY'S FEATURE

GAME ON: EDDIE CETIN
Sometimes, to lift the performance of your sales team you just need to ignite the competitive spirit with a bit of fun… and that’s what we call gamification. Humans are natural game-players and successful agents are often fabulously competitive (get out a monopoly board on game night and you see what we mean).

But gamification can also work in a sales environment and Eddie Cetin from Agentbox explains how gamification can take your team’s performance to the next level.

ANYTHING ELSE?

LOVERS OF LIBERTY...
On this day in 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty, a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of America, arrived in New York Harbor after being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean in 350 individual pieces (of copper) packed in more than 200 cases. Fun fact: Assembled, the Statue of Liberty weighs about 204,000 kilograms and has size 879 feet (her sandals are about 7.5 metres long). She is the second tallest statue in the world at 95 metres high (to give you some indication that is about 18x the height of the Statue of David in Italy)...

STRAIGHT UP NOW TELL ME...
Happy Birthday to Paula Abdul, who has probably been one of the hardest working people in Hollywood over the years. Her career began when she was selected from a pool of 700 candidates for the cheerleading squad of the Los Angeles Lakers NBA basketball team and within a year, she became head choreographer. There she was discovered by The Jacksons, and was chosen to be the choreographer for the Jacksons' Victory tour. (Imagine instructing the Jacksons on dance moves?) Her choreography skills also appear in several movies, such as the giant keyboard scene involving Tom Hanks's character in Big.

She then went on to become a recording artist, an American Idol Judge, dance coach and more.
But did you know she is also connected to our Kylie Minogue? In 1997 Abdul co-wrote a song called "Spinning Around" with songwriter and producer Kara DioGuardi (who also became a judge on American Idol in 2009.) The song was intended to be a follow up to Paula’s album Head over Heels. But it was never recorded and "Spinning Around" was instead given to Kylie along a pair of gold pants, and the rest, as they say, is history. Opposites Attract (that song with the cartoon cat) remains Paula’s biggest commercial success.
