LOVERS OF LIBERTY... On this day in 1885, the dismantled Statue of Liberty, a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of America, arrived in New York Harbor after being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean in 350 individual pieces (of copper) packed in more than 200 cases. Fun fact: Assembled, the Statue of Liberty weighs about 204,000 kilograms and has size 879 feet (her sandals are about 7.5 metres long). She is the second tallest statue in the world at 95 metres high (to give you some indication that is about 18x the height of the Statue of David in Italy)...
